Buy Nothing Day & Coop Birthday Celebration
Once again, this year, the Coop will be celebrating its (9th) birthday by not selling a single thing! This year, Buy Nothing Day will again be the focus of our celebration as we cover up all of the shelves, unplug the computers and take a break from the daily retail grind.
So on Sunday, November 29, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, come on down for some music, dancing, and free cake. We will have fun stuff for children and informative (and equally fun) stuff for adults. It's going to be a blast!
Real food for sale: Ferme Mange-Tout is now selling winter baskets. These baskets consist of salad and cooking greens from the greenhouse, plus two weeks' worth of storage vegetables such as squash, cabbage, turnips, potatoes, beets, carrots, celeriac, Jerusalem artichokes, parsnips, onions, garlic, etc., all of which, of course, are certified organic. Baskets cost $27 if you pay in advance, or $30 "at the door" - a bargain either way. November deliveries are Tuesdays November 3 and November 17 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. For more information, email info@fermemangetout.ca or call (514) 942-8473. Please support sustainable local food production: "Vote with your Fork!" www.fermemangetout.ca
Volunteer opportunities: we are looking for volunteers to help out on Buy Nothing Day. If you would like to help out, send us an email at newsletter@cooplamaisonverte.com.
Now hiring! The Coop is looking to hire a customer service agent who can work two to three shifts per week. If you are interested in working at the Coop, bring your CV to the store. The deadline for application is Friday, November 13, at 6:00 PM.

University of the Streets Café Public Conversation: Health Matters: Public Health or Private Profit?
Reforming health care is a hot topic in Québec, as well as in Canada and the USA. Most agree that some things need "fixing," but there's no agreement on just what to repair -- or how. In this conversation, we will dig deeper into the current health care debate and discuss what kind of policies and practices we need to promote and sustain our health and that of our families and communities. instdev.concordia.ca/ourprograms/universityofthestreetscafe

What about FOOD? A Members' Meeting to Discuss Selling More Food at the Coop
Yes, you read that correctly. We are having a meeting to discuss selling more food at the Coop. Part of the mission of the Coop has always been the provision of whole food. Until now, that aspect of our work has been limited to a small selection of organic and fair trade items and a large selection of our very popular fair trade and organic bulk coffee. Now, we are embarking on a project to increase the amount of food sold at the Coop and we are looking for your input. So join us on November 25 as we begin this discussion.

Madagascar is recognized globally as a biodiversity hotspot, yet local people continue to destroy this richness because of extreme poverty and lack of viable economic alternatives. Here in Montréal, a young NGO called SADABE is fighting for the environment in Madagascar, by seeking to develop novel and innovative ways to promote the coexistence of people and wildlife. In a world in which conservation and development often fail when attempted in isolation, our best chances lie in projects which tackle both challenges together. SADABE's goals are to promote a better and more effective coexistence for Madagascar's humans and its wildlife, through co-ordinating research on biodiversity, conservation initiatives, and development assistance. Learn more about SADABE's activities, and ways you can contribute, here! - Click here to read the full article.
