Coop la Maison Verte

September 2008
Art at the Co-op, and Car Free Day!

Message to Members

Hello members, welcome back from your vacations, camping trips and back yards. We hope you had a wonderful summer!

We've been preparing for our Annual General Assembly, which takes place in the store Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. Our AGAs are a great place to get a feel for what the Co-op is all about. Here, members get updated on Co-op initiatives, vote on motions, and can even run for a seat on our Board of Directors. For more information visit our website or drop by the store.

Look Up Gallery: You may have noticed a big empty wall looming above your heads when you're standing at the cash. We are happy to announce that we will be using this space to exhibit local artwork, starting this month with collages by Co-op worker and curator Paula Belina.

Green back-to-school @ the Co-op:
Wood & biodegradable pens, recycled pencils, refillable highlighters, recycled notebooks and notepads, stainless steel water bottles & lunch tins, recycled clipboards and cardboard binders!

Thanks to: Johanna Kratz, Gilles Rondeau (translation), Johanne Bouthillier (revision)

Reinventing the commute with the help of transportation management centres

French original by Axelle Casagrande, Communications Officer, Mobiligo (translation by Johanna Kratz)

Fed up with traffic, the continuously rising price of gas, increasing air pollution and your own inactivity? At Montreal's centres de gestion des déplacements (CGDs), that is, transportation management centres, we can help you.

We develop and implement viable alternatives to solo car travel, through programs like ALLÉGO, which offers concrete solutions for reducing solo car travel for commuters. Companies and institutions are offered a wide range of sustainable transportation solutions to encourage employees to find alternatives to single-driver vehicles. We support and advise you, step by step, while you implement the program. With options ranging from managing parking to public transit to carpooling to cycling and even walking, we help you take to the road ALLÉGO style!

There are many advantages to introducing sustainable transportation measures:

Our programs are eligible for grants from the Quebec Department of Transport. For further information, feel free to contact one of our CGDs, depending on their areas of responsibility, at the addresses indicated below:

"In Town, Without My Car" September 22
The sixth edition of "In Town, Without My Car!" will take place on Monday, September 22, 2008, closing one of the largest areas in North America to traffic. The purpose of this international event is to raise public awareness of the harmful effects of single-driver vehicles on the quality of city life and to push people to think about the behavioural changes required when it comes to urban travel. It is also an opportunity to encourage the public to discover alternative means of transportation to driving solo. Join the festivities!
