At the Co-op

Co-op La Maison Verte is a community-based co-operative that offers ecological solutions for the home as well as resources for responsible consumption. It is the first environmental solidarity co-op in Canada.

We operate a friendly store and café in the Montreal borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG). Founded in 1999, today we are almost 7000 members strong and offer more than 1,000 ecological and fair trade products.

This year, the goal is to coordinate a global Earth Hour. Already, a large number of cities (including Montreal and most major Canadian cities) have agreed to participate! Will you? Read Eco Logic contributor Roger Haughey's take on the event HERE.

"Greening the Co-op" committee

Posted October 26, 2007 by "La Maison Verte"

At La Maison Verte we like to set an example not only with the products we sell, but also by the way we do things in the store (recycling, composting, etc.). At our last General Assembly a proposal was adopted: form a special committee with the mandate to make the store is as energy efficient and "green" as possible. Think innovative lighting, water recouperation, large-scale composting, even a wind turbine on the roof!

If you have experience or abilities you would like to share, or if this type of thinking appeals to you, please contact us to join our exciting new committee. Email: jason@cooplamaisonverte.com .

Protest the SPP meetings in Montebello QC

Posted August 16, 2007 by "La Maison Verte"

Did you know that from August 20-21, Stephen Harper, George W. Bush and Mexico 's President Felipe Calderon will be meeting in Montebello , Quebec?

Did you know they will be discussing the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), a NAFTA-like agreement which, under the guise of securing the continent, could eliminate Canada 's ability to set its own independent regulatory standards, environmental protection measures, energy security, foreign, military, immigration and a frighteningly wide range of other policies?

We didn't either until very recently.
So why no public consultations? Why the secrecy?

These talks will affect the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the human rights and civil liberties we enjoy-all things we at Co-op La Maison Verte take very seriously.

We want to make sure our members are as informed as possible about the SPP and similar agreements. For more information, and to find out how you can take part in peaceful protests against the agreement, please visit the following websites:
