How can small decisions in design lead to socially and environmentally responsible solutions? During this public conversation we will explore questions of environmental damage with the help of concerned engineers.

The current state of our stressed-out, warmed-up, polluted globe proves that the environmental ‘crisis’ is no longer something that is looming ahead but something we must contend with everyday. Engineers are at the head of the pack of those who can actually make significant decisions and choices to reduce environmental damage and maybe even start reversing the trend. How can this environmental ‘reflex’ best be cultivated in working engineers and fostered in the next generation? What changes need to be made to current engineering practices and in existing curriculum and training? During this public conversation we will explore these questions with the help of concerned engineers.

Guest

François Balas is a mechanical engineer with a background in gas turbine design and renewable energy.  He is a member of the Montreal West environmental committee and recently founded weeCab, a dynamic ridesharing community.

Moderator

After beginning his engineering career in energy conservation with SNC Lavalin, Mario Ciaramicoli is now an Integration Specialist with world-leading flight simulator manufacturer CAE.  Mario has almost 15 years of community volunteer service having worked with student groups, Italian-Canadian and international cultural organizations, local charities, and professional societies.
